> Lake Garda

Garda Lake is the largest lake in Italy, only 130 kilometers (80 miles) west of Venice. Lake Garda offers the visitor a magnificent natural landscape, with the bright blue of its water surrounded by steep mountains in the north and the gentle morainic hills in the south. Thanks to an almost Mediterranean climate, a rich vegetation, unusual in northern Italy, flourishes: lemon trees, oleanders, olive and palm trees, bouganville.
Vineyards and olive groves produces renown wines and a delicate olive oil.
Thanks to its climate and the abundance of its shores lake Garda has been colonized by man since prehistoric age. In Roman time gorgeous villas where built in some of the most beautiful spots on lake Garda. Remains of the biggest Roman villa in Northern Italy can be admired in Sirmione. In middle age being the border between the territory controlled by Verona ruling family, Scala, and Milan ruling family, Visconti, it became an important strategic area. Castles, many of which can be still admired like in Sirmione, Lazise, Malcesine, were built along its coast. In 16th century noble families started to build their gorgeous villas on lake Garda hills and promontory like in Punta San Vigilio.
